McKendree University

A group of nine McKendree University students cleaned an eighth-mile of the bank of the Kaskaskia River just below the dam on Carlyle Lake. And from that small area, they managed to mine just shy of 40 pounds of trash. On Monday they took the trash they found and attatched it to a four-foot-tall, 20-foot-long chickenwire fence right next to the University’s flag pole with hopes it would make others think twice before they hurled their garbage into our waterways. photos by Derik Holtmann

Work continues on the two new state-of-the-art residence halls at McKendree University in Lebanon. The construction site for the new halls can be found north of the campus quad near the corner of Alton Street and Summerfield Street. The new complex will accommodate 200 students in single and double suites, each with their own bathroom. Facilities will include a fitness center and a “great room” gathering place with a fireplace and kitchen. There will be one laundry room for both wings and each floor will have a lounge and study areas. The new halls will be accessible by elevator and stairs and protected by a key-card entrance for added security. A spacious courtyard will be part of the outdoor landscape.  Construction is expected to be complete by August 2011, the opening of the fall semester.    For more information on  construction and McKendree University visit http://www.mckendree.edu Photos by Derik Holtmann
