Mississippi River Bridge Construction
Construction continues on the new Mississippi river bridge. The towers have reached a height of about 200 feet they will eventually reach a height of 400 feet. A good view of the bridge construction can be found from the Mullanphy Pump House, renovated in May of 2011. The location is located just north of the Landing at the end of Mullanphy street in St. Louis. photos by Derik Holtmann

Mississippi River Bridge Construction
Construction on the new Mississippi River Bridge is starting to take shape. The Missouri approach has part of the road surface completed as the Illinois side is working on the columns and caps that will eventually support the driving surface. The two towers that will support the deck of the bridge are expected to be completed in early 2012.

Marine Week: food distribution
Marines help load food into vehicles during the food distribution at the Continuum of Life Care Center in East St. Louis. The St. Louis Area Foodbank distributed over 20,000 pounds of food during the event. The Marines are volunteering at a variety of locations throughout the St. Louis region as part of Marine Week.

Marine Week
Marines trained and prepared for their demonstration of Special Purpose Insert/Extraction (SPIE) Rigging demonstrations during Marine Week in St. Louis. The group trained on the grounds of Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park in East St. Louis on Wednesday. The techniques they will demonstrate for shows this week are designed for inserting and extracting a team from a landing zone that a helicopter could not normally fly into, such as a heavily wooded area. During their presentation they will be extracting and inserting on the helicopter barge on the St. Louis Riverfront. The group will perform on the St. Louis Riverfront near the Arch at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m on 6/23, 4 p.m. on 6/24 and 2 p.m. on 6/25.

Storm Damage

Ten Toe Express
The Ten Toes Express roared into Belleville Wednesday kicking off the spring season for the MetroLink based walking program. The Express is a program of Citizens for Mass Transit which touts walking tours as a way for people to get exercise while learning about some of the hidden treasures of the St. Louis area. It was a beautiful day for a walk as about 30 people followed special guest guide Bob Brunkow of the Belleville Historic Society as he showed off old homes and historic sites in the Hexenbukel Neighborhood in Belleville.
